Boone Pickens, the billionaire oilman who has spent millions on Republican causes in past elections – including the Swift Boat effort in 2004 – but has said he is remaining non partisan this time around as he finances his own campaign for energy development, particularly wind power.

About 300 demonstrators, pro and con, heralded her arrival at the Fairmont hotel here where she met donors who had paid up to $57,000 a couple to attend. Some held signs delivering a very different verdict on the debate. “Sarah Don’t Wink at Me, Ever,” read one, a reference to her facial expressions on Thursday night. “Lipstick on a Bush,” declared another. Another put a twist on the old Texas bite: “All Hat and No Moose.”
